'We are absolutely delighted that our son has secured his place to study Finance at Cass Business School! It is a dream come true!
Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for the tremendous role you have played in transforming a disillusioned boy into a confident, highly motivated and happy man. Your teaching has been excellent. We also greatly appreciate the personal touch and all you have given of yourselves in shaping his thoughts and experiences! Thank you also for
supporting me as a mother through some of darkest days of my life.'
Mrs N.C. Salisbury
'The expert tuition given to my son by his Chemistry tutor has enabled him to achieve a near perfect score with his A*. This undoubtedly would not have been accomplished without the guidance of his brilliant tutor. The dedication of the staff is second to none. Thanks to Wessex tutors my son is now able to pursue his childhood ambition of making a difference to the lives of the sick, by accepting his place at medical school. We will always be grateful to the staff of Wessex Tutors. Thank you! Shame we can only give you a rating of 5/5, not any higher!'
Mrs A.S. Southampton

Tuition and advice

Methods of tuition

The teaching at Wessex Tutors is usually on an individual basis. We aim to have the most flexible programme possible for each student. The college can prepare the students for the exams of any of the examining boards. We can continue with any specification which a student has already been following, or we can help students to change to alternative specification where it is felt their content or timing would be more appropriate. It is possible for students to take any combination of subjects and to combine GCSE with A/S or A2 levels.

Many students need guidance on how to study and our tutors devote considerable attention to this. Students are taught to concentrate on the essentials of an argument; they are helped to plan their written work and to present it clearly and logically. As most students come to us for intensive examination courses, we place considerable emphasis on practising exam technique and writing timed answers from past examination papers.

In addition to their tutorial periods, students are set between 3 and 5 hours homework per subject per week. All homework is marked by the tutors, who make sure assignments are completed on time.

Reports on students' progress are sent at the end of each term and at half term in the autumn.

The Principal and tutors are always available to discuss the work and progress of students with parents.

All prospective students are required to attend an interview. The Principal will discuss their personal requirements and problems, and will be able to advise them on the most suitable course. A change of specification or subject may be suggested if it is felt it would be of benefit to the student.

At the beginning of each term, individual timetables are arranged in consultation with the students. Some students come to the college daily, others for two, three or four days each week.

Some students come to the college for their lessons, but prefer to do their private study at home. Others prefer to stay and work here all day. This flexibility is allowed as it is a better preparation for University life. We do, however, require the younger students to work on the premises and if an older student is not working well, we may insist he/she comes to the college all day.

The official college hours are 9.00 - 5.00. Students with long journeys will not be given early lessons and may come in later in the morning.

Advice on further education

The college offers careers advice and guidance as to what further education and training might suit students' talents and ambitions. Those wishing to take a course at University are advised on the choice of course and institution, the likely grades required, and the completion of UCAS entries.

University and college prospectuses and a variety of careers literature are available at the college.
